Must Read Book List for Moms In 2020

If reading more books is on your list of goals for 2020, then here’s an excellent reading list for  moms, mom bosses, soon-to-be moms and just women who want to empower themselves to live passionately no matter what they’re doing or what stage of life they’re living. Books have a way to transform us, leaving a lasting impression. Depending on what you’re going through, they can really speak volumes about how to handle a situation.

Last year’s reading list was such a hit, that we knew we had to create another one for 2020. Here are 12 books (one for each month if you’d like to pace yourself or add to your goals list) that every woman, mom, mom boss and wife should definitely carve out some self-care time for. These titles are meant to inspire you to live your best life each day and will hopefully motivate you to push yourself in 2020 to accomplish all your resolutions and goals.

Last year’s book list had another Rachel Hollis favorite, Girl Wash Your Face, and this year we have her follow up on our list. If you read her last title, it was so empowering and great, that this one will set your butt on fire to really double down and start checking off everything on your 2020 goals list. In this title, she challenges women to stop talking themselves out of their goals and dreams and live out their life instead of feeling trapped int heir “mother/wife/best friend/etc. roles” they’ve defined for themselves. We haven’t read it yet, but better believe it’s going to be the first one we devour during our bath time.

2. Mom Up: Thriving with Grace in the Chaos of Motherhood by Kara Kay James

Being a mom is hard and mothers everywhere know it. We all think we’re failing at this job, but we really aren’t. The book aims to help moms stop merely surviving their motherhood journey and start thriving.  The book focuses on intentional motherhood, emphasizes the importance of rest and how to embrace the chaos. It does have religious undertones, but they’re not totally in your face claims, which makes it a refreshing read for moms everywhere.

3. You Are A F*cking Awesome Mom by Leslie Anne Bruce

I first heard about this book at a friend’s birthday party. One of her other mom friends had gifted her this and the title just really stood out to me. I knew I had to check it out because of how raw and awesome the title was. I started reading it and realized it’s actually a pretty good book for a first-time mom. As a mom of three, I sort of felt I knew everything in the book, but really wished it was out when I had my first son in 2013. It’s raw and honest, which is what all new moms need when they begin their journey of motherhood.

4. Mastering Your Mean Girl by Melissa Ambrosini

This book is has been around for a while, but I couldn’t have found it at a better time. I have to admit that I’m tired of surviving motherhood and want to finally enjoy it. If you feel you’re about to go over the edge, this book will help you get back to the type of mom you intentionally wanted to be but lost sight of.

As a mom, sometimes I feel I’ve lost that “magic” I had before I had kids. It’s as if I lost a part of myself and not sure where it went. 9. Cat and Nat’s Mom Truths by Catherine Belknap and Natalie Telfer

If you follow these two on social media, then you already know how entertaining they are. I personally love how raw and honest the two are when it comes to motherhood. They make me feel as if I’m not as screwed up as I thought given they go through the same things. This book is filled with comedic truths that every mom will relate to, making you feel better about being a mom and everything you think you’re messing up.

10. The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson

I need to stop caring about everything and anything. It’s keeping me up all night and making me worry about things I shouldn’t. This book is supposed to help you weed out what you should think matters and stop worrying about the rest. I’m hoping this book really kicks me in the butt and provides me with the realizations I need to stop caring too deeply about things that shouldn’t or don’t really matter when it comes to the bigger picture of things and my happiness.

11. The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown

I always thought I’d be a different person by the time I was this age when I was younger. Things didn’t obviously go as planned and I sometimes have a hard time of letting those thoughts of perfection go. No one is perfect, but society expects us to, especially in this Pinterest/Instagram age where we see all these “perfect moms” that make us rethink our own motherhood journey. This book helps you let go of those misconceptions so that you can be happy with who you are because that’s what makes you so unique and special!

12. Breathe, Mama, Breathe: 5-Minute Mindfulness For Busy Moms by Shonda Moralis

I don’t do too well with mindfulness, but it’s a goal for this year. This book provides easy-to-follow tricks and tips that are supposed to help mamas of all stages find daily opportunities to refocus and reset with mindfulness.

There are so many books that can help mamas out, and these are just a few of the ones I’ll be focusing on for 2020. These are books I’ve been wanting to put on my book list for a while now and so I’ll be reading them myself (or have read). I’m looking forward to all the insight they’ll provide to help me along with my motherhood journey for 2020.
